One of the most common questions I hear is: “How’s the market?” It’s totally understandable — but it’s rarely the most useful question you can ask.

Why? Because there is no single, universal market that answers every buyer and seller’s situation. What’s right for one person might not be right for someone else — even if their question sounds the same.

Imagine two people ask you the same weather question without saying where they are or what they’re doing:

  • “How’s the weather?”

Without context — it’s impossible to give a meaningful answer.

That’s exactly what happens when someone asks “How’s the market?” without sharing their goals, timeline, or priorities.
