If you're living in San Luis Obispo County and feel like buying your first home is just out of reach — the 2026 Dream For All Program might be your breakthrough.
This state-funded loan assistance program helps first-time, first-generation homebuyers by covering up to 20% of the home’s purchase price for down payment and closing costs.
The goal? To create stability and opportunity for everyday Californians — and in a high-cost market like SLO County, that support could make all the difference.
The CalHFA Pre-Registration Portal will open February 24, 2026, and stay open until March 16, 2026 at 5:00 PM PDT.
This round uses a randomized selection process, meaning there's no rush to apply on Day 1 — just make sure your application is accurate, complete, and submitted by the deadline.
Here’s the step-by-step process if you’re planning to apply in San Luis Obispo County:
1️⃣ Get Pre-Approved by a CalHFA-Approved Lender
You'll need a CalHFA DFA Pre-Approval Letter before applying. (We work with local approved lenders and can get you connected.)
2️⃣ Apply in the DFA Portal
Create your account between Feb 24–Mar 16, upload required documents, and complete your application.
Only one application per household is allowed.
3️⃣ Documents You’ll Need:
DFA Pre-Approval Letter
Valid government-issued ID
Foster care documents (if applicable)
4️⃣ Eligibility Attestations Required:
At least one applicant is a CA resident
All are first-time homebuyers
At least one applicant is a first-generation buyer
Income meets SLO County limits
5️⃣ Parental Info Required for First-Gen Buyers:
Name, DOB, current address, or birth certificate if needed to prove relationship.
✔️ CalHFA will randomly select eligible applicants
✔️ Notifications will go out by email: Selected, Waitlisted, Not Selected, or Request for More Info
✔️ Selected applicants have 90 days to shop for a home, sign a contract, and have their loan reserved by their CalHFA-approved lender
In a time where the cost of entry into homeownership feels daunting, programs like this provide a real path to long-term stability.
Whether you're starting fresh, growing your family, or simply ready to stop renting — this is a rare chance to own in San Luis Obispo County with help.
Let’s get you ready before the portal opens.
