The Ultimate Summer Bucket List for San Luis Obispo County

If someone asked me how to spend a perfect summer in San Luis Obispo County, I wouldn't hand them a list of the top-rated attractions.

I'd ask them a few questions first.

Do you want a relaxing beach day?

Are you looking for somewhere the kids will love?

Do you want to discover someplace you've never been before?

Or are you hoping to slow down for a weekend and enjoy everything that makes living on the Central Coast so special?

Here's the thing.

One of my favorite parts about living here is that no two weekends have to look the same.

One Saturday might start with coffee in downtown Paso Robles before heading to the farmers market. Another could mean kayaking in Morro Bay, wine tasting in the afternoon, and watching the sun disappear into the Pacific that evening.

That's what I love about San Luis Obispo County.

There's always something to do, but nothing ever feels rushed.

If you're putting together your own summer bucket list, these are the places I'd start.

Start Your Morning in Downtown Paso Robles

If you've spent any time around me, you know I'm a little partial to North County.

Paso Robles has a way of making you slow down.

Grab a coffee.

Walk around the park.

Pop into a few local shops.

If you're here on a market day, even better.

It's one of those places where you never know who you'll run into.

Spend an Afternoon at Avila Beach

I get asked all the time which beach I'd recommend.

Honestly?

It depends on what you're looking for.

If you have younger kids, Avila Beach is hard to beat.

The water is usually calmer than other beaches nearby, everything is within walking distance, and you can easily spend the whole day without getting back in your car.

Sometimes simple wins.

Watch the Sunset at Montaña de Oro

I've watched a lot of sunsets around the Central Coast.

This is still one of my favorites.

There isn't much to say once you're standing on those cliffs.

The ocean does all the talking.

If you've never been, make this the summer you go.

Take the Scenic Route

One thing I think people underestimate is how beautiful the drive can be.

Don't rush from one destination to the next.

Take Highway 1.

Stop in Cayucos even if it's just for a walk on the pier.

Grab lunch.

Keep driving.

Pull over when something catches your eye.

Some of the best days around here aren't planned.

They're discovered.

Go Somewhere You've Never Been

This is probably the only challenge on this list.

Visit one place you've never explored before.

Maybe it's a winery.

Maybe it's a trail.

Maybe it's a small town you've driven through a hundred times without stopping.

San Luis Obispo County has a way of rewarding curiosity.
