Some of my favorite spots aren't hidden because they're hard to find.

They're hidden because people are usually too busy driving to the next destination.

They pass right by them.

Elfin Forest in Los Osos

The first time you visit, you'll probably wonder why more people don't talk about it.

The boardwalk winds through twisted coastal trees, native plants, and beautiful views of the Morro Bay Estuary.

Just an easy walk that reminds you how much natural beauty is tucked away around here.

Everyone knows Moonstone Beach.

Fiscalini Ranch Preserve feels like one of Cambria's best-kept secrets.

The trails take you along dramatic coastal bluffs with incredible ocean views.

You'll see wildflowers in the spring, plenty of wildlife throughout the year, and some of the quietest stretches of coastline you'll find.

Bring comfortable shoes.

You'll probably end up walking farther than you planned.

Dinosaur Caves Park in Shell Beach

The name gets people's attention.

The views keep them there.

Perched above the coastline, this park has wide-open ocean views, walking paths, and plenty of places to sit for a while.

It's one of those spots that's perfect for an evening walk.

Simple.

Beautiful.

Exactly what the Central Coast does so well.

Sensorio in Paso Robles

This one feels completely different from everything else on the list.

As the sun goes down, thousands of lights begin to glow across the hillside.

It's art.

It's landscape.

It's something you really have to experience in person.

Even if you've been once, it's worth going back.

The atmosphere changes with the seasons and the evening light.

Nitt Witt Ridge in Cambria

Cambria has plenty of charm.

Nitt Witt Ridge might be its most unusual attraction.

Built from recycled and found materials over several decades, it's unlike anything else on the Central Coast.

It's quirky.

It's creative.

And it's one of those places people are still talking about on the drive home.

The Back Roads Around Templeton

Sometimes the hidden gem isn't a destination.

It's the drive.

The roads surrounding Templeton are filled with old oak trees, vineyards, ranches, and wide-open views.

I don't always have a plan when I head out there.

Sometimes I'll simply take the long way home.

I've never regretted it.

The Quiet Corners of Morro Bay

Everyone visits the Embarcadero.

Fewer people wander beyond it.

Walk a little farther.

Find a quiet bench overlooking the harbor.

Watch the sea otters.

Listen to the water.

It's amazing how quickly the crowds disappear.
